It was the second to last weekend before Summer vacation was officially over in 2014. Our family of 4 set out with a truck full of snacks & the camper in tow, we headed in a southerly direction towards Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin.
This is one of the first camping trips we have taken as a family and we are looking forward to camping a lot more together in the future , and hopefully a time or two this year yet before the snow flies.Whoa there little buddy, I think you sat in the wrong seat! (Isn't it unreal to think that our oldest will be learning to drive in 5 1/2 years?! )
We arrived at the campground mid day on Saturday, after having an amazing and fun lunch, delivered by a mini train at Buffalo Phil's in Wisconsin Dells.
We set up camp, explored the campground a bit, and then stoked up the bonfire to cook hot dogs for dinner! The pool was packed Saturday evening, Sunday evening was a completely different view with under 5 people including us) in the pool!
Saturday evening we played some mini golf, and watched as Camryn danced her little heart out at the dance party the campground had. There were no bugs anywhere to be seen, the weather was beautiful and we slept very well Saturday night. Sunday morning we attended a little church service that was held at the campground and the kids completed a fun craft afterwords.
We made Bush Pies for lunch (consists of whatever you can find). We used bread, butter, turkey pepperoni and cheese in our bush pies, they were so good!
After lunch we ventured over to the swimming pool and water park and spent a good portion of the day in the water and soaking up the sunshine.Silly Camryn, that's not the swimming pool! (This was Cam Saturday evening having fun with a bucket of water)[/caption]
Camryn picked out special ingredients so we could cook s'mores for an afternoon snack on Sunday. Don't they look delicious?
After 2:00 on Sunday afternoon, the campground became very silent as most of the campground guests headed for home. We decided that we really like the peacefulness of camping on Sunday - Monday!
Devon and I awoke Monday morning around 6:00 a.m. to the howling of of the wind. The sun was rising, and the sky looked eerie, it felt like a tornado was coming, something felt so similar in the air to childhood tornadoes that I had experienced. I decided I was going to quickly run to the bathroom before the storm hit, and yes, you guessed it, the storm hit 1 minute after I entered into the bathroom stall. When it hit, it hit very hard. The bathroom was so loud from the wind, the power went out, and I could hear branches breaking. I was holding the main bathroom door shut as it was continually being sucked open from the wind. The rain was pouring so hard that when I did peek outside , I couldn't see a thing. There was another lady and little girl waiting out the storm in the bathroom with me, I guess being stuck in a bathroom it is a good way to get to know your fellow campers -and probably the safest place to be!
After about 10 minutes as the storm was almost over, Devon came and picked me up. Tents were blown over, tree branches were everywhere, and trees were up rooted all over the camp ground, the storm had torn apart the campground trees. Thankfully we were okay and our truck and camper received no damage.
We rested up a bit more, let the camp site dry out and then invited a special guest over to help us celebrate Camryns 6th birthday. Look who it is, Yogi Bear! He even delivered Camryn a birthday cake (made by his girlfriend, Cindi Bear), birthday plates, napkins, birthday hats, and a stuffed Yogi Bear for Camryn) What a cool bear , we are thankful he still made time for us even with all of the storm clean up there was to do, and happy that he survived the storm as well! :)
After enjoying cake, we went swimming again for a few hours, then took a long walk around the campground to check out some of the storm damage.
We had a wonderful time at Jellystone Resort and Campground, the whole weekend was full of activities that the campground had planned (besides the fun swimming, canoeing, mini golf ) that we didn't even need to leave the campground during our entire stay. We will be back to Jellystone Park in the future and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a very fun, family getaway!
Thanks for joining us on our latest family adventure!
